The magic of a figure eight

First, let me provide you with a little history on Jax. He is a great, willing horse... But he is a lot of horse, especially when jumping a course. He basically gets very forward and does not enjoy slowing down or stopping when told (we have been working on both and he has improved drastically). So after much thought and asking the opinions of friends and peers in the equestrian community, I've decided a figure eight would be the best choice for Jax. He was in a caveson with a flash attachment before. I tried the flash and it didn't produce the results I had hoped for and he still careened like a bat out of hell around course. Still, I wanted to try one out to see if it would work as well as I was hoping. Luckily my friend, Lisa had a spare fig. 8 noseband that she let me borrow today for my ride. My god, the difference it made! It was like night and day! In fact, his brakes worked a little too well and I realized I will need to move his reins back to the snaffle setting on his 3 ring elevator (it's on the ring right below the snaffle at the moment). Once I do that I have a feeling we will be golden! His canter was to die for today and his jumping was lovely and controlled. I think I've found a winner! Now all I need is to buy my own and I'll be set!
